The Estuary of 4 Rivers

The unique thing about lake Limboto is the position which is in lowland with 4.5 meters height above sea surface. The lake with an area of 3000 hectares is the estuary of the 4 major rivers in Gorontalo.
It’s located right in the border between Gorontalo the city and Gorontalo the district. The lake was formed from the flow of 4th major rivers in Gorontalo: alo , daenaa, bionga, and molalahu. The lake also the headwater of river tapodo which the estuary merged together with river bone bolango and flowed on into the sea.


Besides presenting a beautiful natural scenery, some activities can be done in the lake. From boat race to mere fishing. To enjoy the beauty of the lake, visitors can rent boats called katinting (small boat) which are ready to drive up to the middle of the lake. The middle of the lake is indeed the most beautiful place to enjoy the panorama there. However, it takes some guts to ride the katinting that only fit 2 passengers. The boat can easily overturned if you fail to balance it.
If you choose not to be wet because of the overturnedboat , there are always other water vehicles as alternatives, ie: motorboats belonging to the fishermen who usually moored at the pier Dembe I.

The motorboats are capable of carrying four passengers. With only IDR 10,000 (US $1), passengers can drive around the lake for 30 minutes to an hour. Fishing hobyists can also satisfy his favorite moment in the middle of the lake. Those who want to eat different types of fish fresh from the lake can stop at one of the many floating restaurants on the lake.
While enjoying food, visitors can see various sea birds, which some of them are rare species. One of them, is the white belly sea eagle. Although classified as wild birds, sea eagles are familiar with the fishermen.
The birds perched quietly on the edge of the keramba bamboo poles buffer that is usually found in the lake. They perched on the edge of the stake waiting for dead fish to eat. The line of keramba line with the high stakes in the 4 corners are dominating the scene at the surface of the lake Limboto.
Visitors can also enjoy and feel the nuances of fishermen’s life around the lake who live in hutadaa village. Huutadaa fishing village is the perfect place to enjoy the exoticism of sunset, which seemed to sink gradually into the surface of the lake Limboto.
For Hutadaa’s local residents the lake is the source of their lives. They make the lake as a place of fresh water aquaculture. From the fishermen’s village, a unique landscape of floating huts surrounded by bamboo poles supporting fish chart looks so neat. Some small boats are also seen.
There is no prohibition to approach boats and floating cabins there. However, you should remove the footwear in order to enjoy the soft mud at the bottom of the lake. Visitors can can walk in about 30 m from the edge of the lake. Don’t worry about the dirty foot, the fishing villagers around the lake Limboto will be happy to bring a bucket of clean water to clean them up.
