Segara Sari Manggar beach, often just called Manggar Beach, is number one tourist attraction in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The location is a bit on the edge of town. But, no worries. The distance is only 9 kilometers from International Airport Sepinggan, gate of East Kalimantan.

To reach it is also easy. The road to Manggar beach is smoothly paved. Public transportation is also available. Visitors who want to relax around could ride public transportation No. 7, the one colored dark green.

The sand beach is clean and white. At low tide, the sand is like a big stage for children. Making sandcastles, play kites, or play ball is the everyday scenery in the sand area of 13,000 square meters.

Managed by City Government through the youth,sports,culture, and tourism department, Manggar beach open every day at 06:00 AM until 06:00 PM. Visitors of the beach is not just local residents. Many residents of other districts in East Kalimantan that also took vacation to the beach.

Not satisfied? Not far from Manggar beach, there is Lamaru beach that is not less beautiful. However, the road to the beach is not as smooth as access to the Manggar beach .

About 3 km away from Manggar, there is the Tomb Monument of Japan. Kanji ornate monument was built to honor soldiers who died in Nipon World War II.

Still not satisfied? There is still a choice that is not less exciting. The Crocodile Breeding named Teritip. It’s only 5 kilometers from the beach Manggar and some 27 kilometers from the Sepinggan airport.

The breeding of crocodiles is opened every day at 08.00 AM until 05.00 PM. As the name suggests, visitors can find a lot of crocodiles there. At least, there are estuarine crocodiles (Crocodilus porosus) and crocodile chopsticks (Tomistoma schegeli).

Estuarine crocodiles bred for their skin. Meanwhile, the crocodile chopsticks kept there because the population is nearly extinct in the interior of the Mahakam river.

For those interested in exclusive carrying by-by, there are various souvenir made from crocodiles. There are crocodile leather bag , crocodile skin belts, crocodile skin wallet, and others. Of course, price is not cheap. It can even reach Rp. 1 million(US $100)

Trying the taste of crocodile meat barbeque could also be a memorable experience.

Ever heard crocodile tangkur? It was also sold there. The price varies according to the size. It’s said that crocodile tangkur can add one’s vitality. For those who believe it đŸ˜‰
