Limas House, Palembang Traditional House

The form of limas house is very unique. In terms of language, limas(eng:pyramid) in bahasa Indonesia consists of lima(eng: five) and emas(eng:gold). While the trademark is on its pyramid-shaped roof and a pole or houses on stilts. The type of stage house or house on stilts is suitable with the natural condition of Palembang which are mostly on watery area along the Musi river.

This type of house usually built on the riverbank facing the ground, equiped with bengkalis room, a room for use when the owner held a celebration, festivity, or important meeting. Actually, limas house and stage house has similarity for both are standing on the pole, It’s just on stage house there is no gravestone (steps). While limas house is found to have of 3-4 steps with specific symbols.

Generally these two types of house, designed with great size and plenty of space in it. As a function, the home as a place
to live because in it there is a process of character building and personality of its occupants.The uniqueness of this pyramid house, because its original form as a typical traditional house of Palembang. At the front, there are two steps with a straight ladder mode (single-flight stairway). This ladder is relatively simple, because it is made of wood but it is still has unique impression of its iron spear shaped.
